Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Indore’s decision to remove BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System) has left many people disappointed.
On X (formerly Twitter), a post about how cities like Indore, Bhopal, and Jaipur are removing their BRTS lanes has gone viral. But when it comes to Indore, the reactions are quite strong — people are not happy at all.

The process began on…
Following the orders of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, the Indore Municipal Corporation began the process of removing the BRTS lane railings on February 28, around 11:30 pm.
In the first phase, approximately 100 meters of railings were taken down between GPO and Shivaji Vatika. Around 50 officials and workers from the municipal team were present at GPO Square, where the work continued for nearly 7 hours, finally wrapping up by 6 am on Saturday morning.
Locals say Indore’s BRTS, known as iBUS, was actually working well.
Many feel that removing it is a wrong decision, and the real problem is not the BRTS, but poor planning for regular traffic.
One user shared, “I am from Indore, and iBUS is very successful here. The only issue is that common traffic needs more space, and the BRTS lane blocks it. But that doesn’t mean you remove the whole thing.”
Another comment said, “This will only make traffic worse. It feels like the government cares more about private cars than public transport.”
Many people also blamed the city leaders, not the system itself. Someone wrote, “Indore’s BRTS wasn’t a failure. Our leaders were. If you really want to know how Indore people feel, go check r/Indore.”
Some even refused to believe the news. A user said, “Wait, no! I can’t believe Indore is removing BRTS. iBUS is such a good project, and it still works perfectly fine today.”
The overall mood is clear — Indore’s people liked their BRTS, and they feel removing it is a step backwards. Whether these voices will make any difference or not, only time will tell.
