Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A family’s decision to sleep in the open to escape  the sweltering humidity and to get fresh air due to a power cut in the night in the Dewas Naka Loha Mandi area had tragic consequences for the family as a two-and-a-half-year-old boy lost his life while his mother was severely injured.

According to the police, the deceased was identified as Rajveer, son of Nana Lohar, a resident of Dewas Naka Loha Mandi. The two-and-a-half-year-old boy died when a container driver, reversing his vehicle, ran over him and his mother, who were sleeping outside the entrance of their house along with other family members due to a power blackout.

The incident occurred around midnight on Friday under the Lasudia police station limits. The driver fled the scene after leaving the vehicle, which was seized by the police. Rajveer died on the spot, while his mother Prembai sustained injuries to her hand. The family usually slept inside their house. However, on that fateful night, a power outage forced them to sleep outdoors to escape the sweltering humidity and to get fresh air.

Rajveer’s father Nana said that the family of six, him along with his wife, parents-in-law, son and daughter had gone to sleep just an hour before the accident. Rajveer’s mother was breastfeeding him when the container, which had arrived for parking reversed and ran over them. The child suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot, while his mother sustained injuries. The police began a probe to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
