Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A man and his mother were booked by police for his wife’s dowry death in Azad Nagar area, an official said on Thursday. The 23-year-old woman died on October 26 under suspicious circumstances during her pregnancy.
According to the police, the deceased was identified as Saira Bano. Her maternal family members told police that her husband Shahnawaz and mother-in-law Shakeela B harassed her for dowry and neglected her medical treatment during pregnancy. Saira was admitted to a hospital for maternity care but was discharged prematurely.
When her health worsened three days later, her in-laws allegedly did not provide her proper medical attention, leading to her death. Saira’s family claimed that timely medical intervention could have saved her life. Additional DCP Alok Kumar Sharma said that the woman gave birth to a child on October 26 but her husband & mother-in-law did not look after her health.
They even did not provide nutrients and food, a woman need after delivering a child, leading to her death. ACP Azad Nagar Ashish Patel conducted an investigation and found the allegation to be true that the woman died due to her in-laws harassment for dowry and negligence in her medical treatment during the pregnancy. The police registered a case against the accused under sections 80, 3(5) of the BNS.
