Indore (Madhya Pradesh): With mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav officially inaugurating the digitalisation project on Wednesday, Indore Municipal Corporation has embarked on a massive initiative to digitise over 90 lakh documents within a year.

The inauguration function took place in the presence municipal commissioner Shivam Verma, former mayor Krishnamurari Moghe and others. In his address, Bhargav termed the IMC’s documents as the main asset of the corporation. “By digitising these documents, we are safeguarding our property for the future,” he said.

He also spoke about the alignment of this project with the vision of Digital India, a dream championed by the country’s Prime Minister. The digitisation project aims at streamlining the corporation’s operations, making information easily accessible and enhancing the delivery of basic services to citizens.

As part of this digital transformation, the IMC is developing its own portal and a mobile app, set to launch on April 1. These platforms will provide citizens with access to various municipal services through their smart phones. Information and technology incharge Rajesh Udawat shed light on the comprehensive process involved in the digitisation project.

“The documents will be scanned, errors rectified and stored as searchable PDFs on a web-based Document Management System (DMS). This initiative is expected to be completed within a year,” he said. Udawat also stated that the project addresses ongoing issues with the current e-Nagar Palik system operated from Bhopal.

“By creating its own web portal, the IMC’s plan is to offer over 24 essential services more reliably and efficiently. The digitisation efforts will extend to various operational aspects, including geo-tagging of chambers, streetlight management and updates on city infrastructure,” he added.
