Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a significant step to streamline the payment of streetlight electricity bills of private townships, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) held a joint departmental meeting under Jeetu Yadav, head of the electrical and mechanical department on Friday.

To note, there are approximately 413 private townships that fall within the expanded rural areas of the city and the IMC is planning to take streetlight electricity bills from them. The discussions in the meeting were focused on ensuring municipal-level payment of streetlight electricity bills of private townships that meet specific conditions.

During the review, Yadav emphasized that as per the Mayor’s announcement, private townships or colonies where 70% of property tax accounts had been regularised must pay their streetlight electricity bills to the Indore Muncipal Corporation.

Additional commissioner Narendra Nath Pandey said that some private townships in zones 13 and 19 had already met the required property tax conditions.

For these townships, electricity bills for streetlights would be processed for payment after receiving necessary approvals. Highlighting the scale of the issue, officials from the colony cell disclosed that approximately 413 private townships fell within the expanded rural area of the city.

To streamline the process, Yadav directed the colony cell to prepare a comprehensive zone-wise list of private townships and share it with the respective assistant revenue officers.

These officers would work closely with local representatives and ward councillors to verify zone-wise property tax accounts. He also instructed the electricity department to ensure that all payments for such townships’ streetlight electricity bills were completed within a month.

The initiative is expected to improve the IMC’s financial condition and foster a cooperative approach between the municipality and private township stakeholders, as per Yadav.
