Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a deeply heartbreaking series of events, Indore witnessed seven cases of suicide in 24 hours, involving people from various age groups and backgrounds.
The circumstances of each of these deaths is different marked by emotional distress, personal struggles, or health issues, but one thing is common in this tragic loss of people ranging from young students and working professionals to the elderly and business owners – the suicides have shaken their families, leaving them in despair and shell-shocked. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding each case.
Elderly man dies by suicide due to illness
A 60-year-old man, identified as Nanuram, son of Kaluram, allegedly died by suicide at his residence in the Azad Nagar police station area. According to sources, he had been suffering from a prolonged illness and was living alone.
Family members discovered his body hanging when they returned home in the evening. It is suspected that he was battling depression due to his deteriorating health.
Sewing factory owner ends life
Mahesh Prajapat (40), a sewing factory owner from Chhota Bangarda, died after consuming a poisonous substance at his factory in the Chhipa Bakhal area under the Malharganj police station on Wednesday evening.
Neighbours noticed him vomiting and rushed him to the hospital, where he succumbed during treatment. The reason behind the suicide remains unclear as no note was recovered.
Woman jumps to death after slashing wrist
A 27-year-old woman allegedly jumped to her death from the third floor of a building after slitting her wrist on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The incident occurred under Rau police station limits.
The woman left a suicide note in which she apologised to her parents and held herself responsible for her death, saying that she was trapped in credit card debt and felt unsuccessful in life.
Rau police station in-charge Rajpal Singh Rathore said the deceased was identified as Shalu Singh, a native of Bhopal, who had been living in a rented flat in Silicon City.
She was employed with Axis Bank. Her father works in the private sector. Some students found her lying injured outside an apartment, with blood oozing from her body. They rushed her to the hospital, where she was declared dead.
Young woman ends life after boyfriend’s death in accident
A young woman committed suicide by hanging herself in her hostel, reportedly due to grief over her boyfriend’s recent death in a road accident. The woman had been emotionally disturbed since the incident and left behind a suicide note, saying that she was unable to live without him.
According to police, the deceased was identified as Sonali Lakra, a native of Dharampuri in Dhar district.
She had been living in a hostel in Prakash Nagar and studying in the city. On Wednesday, her friend tried calling her, but Sonali did not answer. After multiple failed attempts, the friend informed the hostel owner that Sonali, who lived in Room No 16, was not responding to her calls. The hostel owner knocked on her door but received no reply. When the door was broken, Sonali was found hanging.
Engineering student dies by suicide
A 17-year-old engineering (first year) student ended her life by hanging herself in her house in Heera Nagar. She was alone at the time of the incident and the reason behind her suicide is not yet known.
According to the police, the deceased was identified as Pratibha Chauhan, a resident of Gauri Nagar. Her father said that most of the family members were out and only her elder sister was at home. Pratibha locked herself in a room and did not come out for a long time. When her sister checked, she found Pratibha hanging. The family was immediately informed.
In another incident, a 26-year-old youth named Dharam, son of Ramesh Giri, also committed suicide by hanging himself at his place under Palasia police station limits.
