The civil nuclear deal between India and America, nearly two decades ago, has now got a historic success. The Department of Department of Energy – DEE has allowed the US company Holtec International on 26 March 2025 to design and manufacture nuclear reactor in India. With this decision, America’s participation in India has paved the way for the expansion of nuclear power projects.
Three companies of India will get technology
Now Holtec International can transfer its nuclear reactor technology to three major companies of India:

This technical cooperation will be helpful in increasing the pace of reactor construction in India.
Foundation formed during Manmohan Singh, approved in Modi government
The original framework of the Indo-US civil nuclear agreement was fixed in 2007 between the then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and US President George W. Bush. However, it took about 20 years at the legal, technical and regulatory levels to implement it.
Now this agreement has got real form under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is being seen as India’s strategic and diplomatic achievement.
America’s consent on India’s terms
Till now America used to export only nuclear reactors and equipment to India, but the design and construction work was not allowed in India.
