The ICC World Test Championship was started in 2019, and its final is played every two years. During this period, all the 9 Test teams have to play various Test series in two years, after which the final is played between the top-2 teams of the points table. Till now the final matches of two seasons of the World Test Championship have been played, and the final of the third season is to be held this year. After this the cycle of 2025-27 will begin. India had reached the finals of the 2019-21 and 2021-23 World Test Championships, but missed out on winning the title both times. India’s path to the 2023-25 finals has also been cut off.
India’s World Test Championship 2025-27 journey will start in England. India is scheduled to play a five-match Test series in England from June 20 to August 4, 2025. After this, India will host West Indies in October 2025, where a two-match Test series will be played. South Africa will tour India in November 2025, in which South Africa will have to play two test matches.
This will be India’s last Test series of 2025. After this, the Indian team will have to go to Sri Lanka to play two test matches in August 2026. Out of the first four Test series, India has to play two foreign tours and two home Test series.
India will have to tour New Zealand in October 2026, where two Test matches will be played. Then in January 2027, Australia will tour India for a five-Test series. India recently lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but it is expected that they will try to get the trophy back by defeating Australia in the home series.
