As soon as the mention of Indian Railways comes, a picture of trains connecting different corners of the country emerges in our mind. You must have heard about the fastest, most expensive or cheapest trains so far, but do you know that there is also a train in India which is heavy on everyone in terms of length?
We are talking about ‘Super Vasuki’ – which is the longest train of Indian Railways. It was started on the occasion of 75th Independence Day. It is not a common train, but a freight train, in which a total of 295 coaches are connected and 6 powerful engines are installed to pull them. This train is about 3.5 km long. Think, how long it can take to see it!
The journey of Super Vasuki starts from Korba in Chhattisgarh and it goes to Rajnandgaon near Nagpur. This freight train carries around 27,000 tonnes of coal with it and it takes about 11 hours 20 minutes to cover the distance.
Another specialty of this train is that it has been made by adding rakes of five different freight trains, causing its ability to be three times from normal trains. Super Vasuki takes so much coal at a time that it is enough to provide electricity to a 3,000 MW power plant for a day.
Such trains not only reflect the logistics potential of India, but also highlight the technical power and future prospects of the railway.
