New Delhi: India’s electronics sector has created history. In the current financial year 2024-25, India has exported the highest smartphone of Rs 2 lakh crore ever. According to the Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), these exports have increased by 55 percent, which has emerged as a major electronics manufacturing center worldwide.
Mobile production also huge increase
India’s electronics production has increased considerably over the years. In the financial year 2023-24, the total value of mobile phone production in the country was ₹ 4.22 lakh crore, while in 2024-25 this price has increased to ₹ 5.25 lakh crore. ICEA President Pankaj Mohindru said, “These figures are clear evidence of the growing potential of India’s electronics sector. This change has been possible due to the Central Government’s Product Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI Scheme).”
Export promoted from PLI scheme
The PLI (Production Linked Incentive) scheme launched by the Central Government is considered one of the main reasons behind this success. This scheme not only increased domestic production, but also increased confidence of global investors in India. Through this scheme, India has strengthened its position in the global price chain. Leading companies like Apple and Samsung have increased significantly in production in India, resulting in a huge jump in smartphone export data.

Changes in global trade are beneficial for India
There have been major changes in global trade in recent times. The mutual tariff policies adopted by former US President Donald Trump have created opportunities for countries such as India to reach the US market. In this background, Icea President Mohindru said, “Our goal is to set India as a reliable and leading manufacturing partner for all major global markets. The world should see India as a natural and strategic option for electronics manufacturing.”
India’s rise in electronics, future direction
India is now competing with countries like China and Vietnam in smartphone exports. India achieved this success due to strong domestic manufacturing infrastructure, skilled manpower and strategic government intervention. As India is rapidly integrated into global production chains, the country’s competitiveness is also increasing. This picture is not only limited to the smartphone sector, but also for the entire electronics and semiconductor industry.
India’s global status
Export of Rs 2 lakh crore is not just economic success, but is a symbol of the strength of India’s manufacturing sector. It is becoming clear that India is on the way to become a global manufacturing center in the coming times. PLI scheme, change in global market and increasing presence of international companies in India – all these factors will undoubtedly make India a global leader in electronics manufacturing.
