India’s great success in dengue vaccine ‘Dengiall’, the country may get relief soon

After the Korona epidemic, India is now taking a decisive step towards dealing with another major health challenge – Dengue. Like the indigenous vaccine ‘Covaxin’ made for Kovid-19, desi vaccine ‘Dengiall’ is being developed in India as well. This vaccine is currently in the third phase clinical trial and its results have been very positive so far. If everything goes on according to the plan, this vaccine can be available in the market by the middle of next year.

What is ‘Dengiall’ and who is making?

This vaccine called ‘Dengiall’ is being developed with the joint effort of ICMR (Indian Medical Research Council) and Panassia Biotech.

  • Phase 1 and Phase 2 trials have been successfully completed.
  • Currently this vaccine is in the third stage trial, with 10,335 participants being tested.
  • The trial is going on at 18 states across the country and 19 centers in union territories.

Dengue havoc and vaccine needs

Every year during the monsoon, dengue wreakes havoc in many states of the country.

  • Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are the most affected states.
  • Dengue affects millions of people every year and thousands of deaths.
  • In such a situation, if ‘Dengiall’ is successful, it can prove to be a game changer by becoming the country’s first indigenous dengue vaccine.

Vaccine’s structure and scientific basis

‘Dengiall’ is built on the basis of Tetravetant Dengue Vaccine Strain (TV003/TV005) developed by NIH (National Institute of Health, America).

  • Tetraavelent vaccine means that it is effective against all four types of dengue virus.
  • There have been some obstacles in Indo-US cooperation due to political reasons, but the anti-vaccine mentality in India is currently getting any support, which is a positive sign.

Progress in India’s health science

India is working rapidly not only against dengue, but also against other diseases.

  • The government plans that by August 2025, vaccine for breast, oral and cervical cancer should also be brought to the market.
  • These vaccines will prove to be beneficial especially for girls aged 9 to 16.
