Pak In BRICS Group: Pakistan, which was hoping to get membership in BRICS, has got a big setback. Due to strong opposition from India, Pakistan did not get membership in BRICS. Apart from this, it has also not found a place in the list of partner countries. At the same time, Turkey has been included in the list of BRICS partner countries.

Russia has recently announced 13 new partner countries. These include Algeria, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda, Nigeria, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. The country will become a BRICS partner country from January 1, 2025. Pakistan, which wanted to get a place in BRICS with the support of China and Russia, was not included in this list.

Reasons for Türkiye’s success

India did not oppose Turkey’s claim due to the change in Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s stance on the Kashmir issue. Pakistan’s attempt to join BRICS failed due to India’s tough stance. Türkiye’s joining BRICS is due to political factors of convenience and a change in strategy. Pakistan will have to reconsider its political efforts.

Strong criticism of Pakistan

This failure of Pakistan is being severely criticized in its own country. Foreign affairs expert Mariana Babar called it a “complete failure” of Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry. He said that a country like Nigeria also performed better than Pakistan and became a BRICS partner country.

India’s tough stance in BRICS

The admission of new BRICS member countries requires the consent of all the founding members. India strongly opposed Pakistan’s claim, due to which the doors were closed for it. However, China and Russia tried to support Pakistan.
