Delhi: Indian boxers finished their campaign with six medals including Hitesh’s gold at the World Boxing Cup held at Foj Do Iguaku, Brazil. This was India’s first participation in the high -level international competition organized by World Boxing. Hitesh has become the first Indian boxer to win a gold medal in the World Boxing Cup. His rival, Odel Kamara of England, was injured and unable to enter the ring in the 70 kg final on Saturday. Indian boxer Abhinash Jamwal also entered the final of the 65 kg weight category, but despite giving a tough competition to local rival Yuri Reece, he had to be content with the silver medal.

India’s Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (50 kg), Manish Rathore (55 kg), Sachin (60 kg) and Vishal (90 kg) won bronze medals. Hitesh credited his good performance to the 10 -day preparation camp held in Brazil before the tournament, which helped him and the team a lot. Hitesh said, “This camp helped me learn some strategic nuances, which helped me a lot in the competition.” In this competition we got the highest level of experience and I am happy that I was successful in winning the gold medal. India launched a 10 -member team in the World Boxing Cup, which was its first major international competition after the Paris Olympics.
