India has always been an agricultural country and today we are standing on the threshold of a new agricultural revolution which will determine our future. The Vice President emphasized the plight of farmers and sensitivity to them. “We not only have to make our farmers producers, but they also have to make them ‘agricultural entrepreneurs’.”
The Vice President recalled the slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’, the slogan of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, which was later associated with ‘Jai Vigyan’ by Atal Bihari Vajpayee and now Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended it to ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, Jai Research’. The Vice President appealed to students and researchers to play an active role through innovation, science and research to realize this approach.
