The Indian women’s cricket team achieved a resounding 304-run win against Ireland in the third and final ODI in Rajkot on Wednesday. This is India’s biggest win in terms of runs in ODI cricket. Earlier, in 2017, the Indian team had defeated Ireland by 249 runs.

The Indian team scored 435 runs for 5 wickets in 50 overs on the basis of first century of Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal, which is their highest score till date. In reply, Ireland were all out for just 131 runs with 110 balls remaining. The record for the biggest win in ODI is in the name of New Zealand, which defeated Pakistan by 408 runs.

Ireland’s weak start

Ireland had a very poor start in response to India’s huge score. They lost two wickets for just 24 runs. Captain Gabby Lewis (1) was LBW by Titas Sadhu, while Christina Coulter Reilly (0) was bowled by Sayli Satghare. Sarah Forbes and Orla Prendergast made a partnership of 64 runs for the third wicket, but Tanuja Kanwar broke this partnership by dismissing Orla.

Dominance of Indian bowlers

Sarah Forbes (41) was run out, while Deepti Sharma dismissed Laura Delaney (10) and Lee Paul (15). Ireland’s innings ended in the 31st over when Deepti dismissed Freya Sargeant (1). For India, Deepti Sharma took 3 wickets for 27 runs, while Tanuja Kanwar took 2 wickets.

Brilliant innings of Mandhana and Raval

Earlier, captain Smriti Mandhana scored her 10th ODI century by scoring 135 runs in 80 balls. This was the first attempt by the Indian women’s team to cross the 400-run mark. This innings of Mandhana included 12 fours and 7 sixes.

Pratika Rawal also performed brilliantly by scoring 154 runs in 129 balls. His innings included 20 fours and 1 six. Together they made a record partnership of 233 runs for the first wicket.

The Indian women’s team set a new milestone by scoring 435 runs by thrashing the Irish bowlers. This is the fourth highest score in women’s ODI international cricket. For Ireland, Orla Prendergast took 2 wickets, while other bowlers took 1 wicket each.
