Indian Railways is called the lifeline of India. Every day lakhs of passengers travel by train in India. To avoid inconvenience in travel, many passengers prefer to book tickets in reserved compartments of the train.
While making reservation in train, many times the ticket goes into waiting list. This is the reason why many people book their tickets in advance so that they can get a confirmed seat. But many times it has been seen that people’s plans change just before the journey.
On such occasions people have to cancel their journey. In such a situation you also cancel your ticket. On which you get a refund. But after deducting some money, if you want, you can try another method also.
You can also transfer your train to someone else. This means you will not need to cancel your ticket. Someone else can travel on your booked ticket. But this facility is available only to those passengers who have booked tickets from the railway counter.
Passengers who book tickets online do not get this facility. Please note that you can use this facility provided by Railways only once. Railways has also made some rules for transferring tickets.
If someone wants to transfer his ticket, he can transfer it only to his immediate family members which includes parents, siblings, son, daughter, husband and wife. Tickets can be transferred only to them. No one else except him.
To transfer the ticket, you have to go to the booking counter of the railway station 24 hours before the departure of the train. After that you will have to give a written application there, mentioning the name in which the ticket is booked and the name in which it is to be transferred. Identity cards of both will be required. You will have to submit all these documents to the railway authority, after which the further process will be completed.
