Indian armed forces are known worldwide for their valor, dedication and humanity. An example of this was recently seen in the Arabian Sea, where Indian Navy warship INS Trikand set an example of humanity by giving emergency medical assistance to a Pakistani sailor.
Emergency call from Iranian boat
The incident took place on April 4, when the Indian Navy received an emergency message from the Iranian fishing boat ‘Al Umaidi’. At that time INS Trikand was on patrol about 350 nautical miles away from the coast of Oman. The Indian Navy reacted immediately as soon as the message was received.
Pakistani sailor was seriously injured
Investigation revealed that a Pakistani sailor working on the boat had a deep injury to the fingers of his hand and had bleed a lot. His condition was critical, so he was already sent to another Iranian boat ‘FV Abdul Rahman Hanzia’, which was going towards Iran.
There were 11 Pakistani (9 Baloch, 2 Sindhi) and 5 Iranian crew members on this boat. According to the Navy, the condition of the injured Pakistani sailor was worrisome and required immediate treatment.
INS Trikand’s team handled the front
On behalf of the Indian Navy, INS Trikand immediately changed his route and reached the injured sailor. Experts along with the Medical Officer, Marine Commando (Marcos) and the boarding team started treatment on the boat.
Nearly three hours of surgery was performed by giving local anesthesia to the sailor, stitching the injured fingers and plaster. Bleeding was stopped in time, which prevents serious conditions like gangrene.
Help of essential medicines also
The Indian Navy not only performed surgery, but also provided antibiotics and other essential medicines to the Iranian boat, so that the sailor could get proper care until he reaches Iran.
Crew members expressed gratitude
After the incident, all the crew members present on the Iranian boat thanked the Indian Navy and said that with the help of time, his partner’s life could be saved.
