Indigenous warships: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a tour of Maharashtra today i.e. on Wednesday. They have reached Mumbai city. On reaching here he was given a guard of honour. PM Modi then dedicated the three major naval warships INS Surat, INS Nilgiri and INS Waghshir to the nation after launching them at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. The surrender of these warships is an important step towards enhancing the strategic strength of the Indian Navy. According to the information, these have been made completely with indigenous technology.

INS Surat: Fourth and last stealth guided missile destroyer

INS Surat is the fourth and last stealth guided missile destroyer built under Project 15B of the Indian Navy. It was launched on 17 May 2022. This warship has advanced radar system and stealth features which give it the ability to attack the enemy stealthily. It is 164 meters long with a displacement of 7400 tonnes and is armed with all types of weapons from submarine missiles to torpedoes. With its ‘Combined Gas and Gas’ (COGAG) propulsion system, the ship can travel at a speed of 30 knots (56 km/h).

Indian Navy’s first stealth frigate: INS Nilgiri

INS Nilgiri is the first stealth frigate of the Indian Navy under Project 17A which will redefine maritime security. It was launched on 28 September 2019. Its weight is 6670 tonnes and length is 149 meters. INS Nilgiri is specially designed to reduce radar signature, so that it can avoid enemy detection. The ship is equipped with supersonic surface-to-surface and medium-range surface-to-air missiles, which will enable it to deal with various threats located at sea.

INS Waghshir: The sixth submarine of the Scorpene class

INS Waghshir is the sixth and last diesel-electric submarine built under the Scorpene-class Project 75 of the Indian Navy. It has been specially designed for covert operations so that it can carry out its missions in enemy areas without making any noise. This 67 meter long and 1550 ton submarine is equipped with wire-guided torpedoes, anti-ship missiles and advanced systems.

Special facilities for women officers

These warships and submarines have special facilities for women officers and sailors. This is an important step towards promoting equality in the Indian Navy. The move also encourages participation of women in the Indian Navy. The induction of INS Surat, INS Nilgiri and INS Waghshir will significantly enhance the strategic strength of the Indian Navy.

These warships and submarines will not only strengthen India’s maritime interests but will also strengthen the reputation of the Indian Navy at the global level. This excellent example of indigenous manufacturing will prove to be an important step towards self-reliance of the Indian defense sector.
