To further strengthen the capacity of the Indian Army, the Cabinet Security Committee (CCS) has approved the purchase of 156 Light Combat Helicopters (LCH). The total cost of this major defense deal will be more than Rs 62,000 crore, which is the largest order for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) so far.
These helicopters will be constructed at HAL plants in Bengaluru and Tumkur in Karnataka. According to defense sources, 90 helicopters will be received by the Indian Army and 66 Indian Air Force. These helicopters are considered very important for deployment on the borders of China and Pakistan. In addition, the deal will also help in the expansion of employment and aerospace industry in the defense sector in the country.
Promotion of self -reliant India and ‘Make in India’
HAL received a tender of 156 light combat helicopters in June last year. The main agency of this project is the Indian Air Force. The government is engaged in strengthening ‘Make in India’ under the self -sufficient Bharat Abhiyan.
In addition, the government has started the process of buying 97 more aircraft after 83 Light Combat Aircraft (LCA). Negotiations have been completed for this.
Recently, the Cabinet Security Committee also approved the purchase of 307 Advanced Todd Artillery Gun System (ATAGS). The deal of Rs 7,000 crore is to be signed with companies like Tata Group and Bharat Forge this week.
‘Prachanda’ – World’s most advanced attack helicopter
LCH is also known as ‘Prachanda’. Its specialty makes it the world’s only attack helicopter, which can land and fly at a height of 5,000 meters (16,400 ft).
It can easily operate in areas with height like Siachen Glacier and Eastern Ladakh.
Air-to-ground and air-to-air missiles capable of firing missiles
The enemy’s air can destroy the defense system
Equipped with better navigation and advanced arms system
In view of the current security situation, the presence of LCH ‘Prachanda’ between the Indian Army and the Air Force is considered very important.
