Rishi Dhawan announced his retirement: India’s star all-rounder Rishi Dhawan has suddenly announced his retirement from limited overs cricket. Dhawan was out of the Indian team for a long time. However, in the meantime he was continuously playing domestic cricket. The 34-year-old all-rounder from Himachal Pradesh last played for India nine years ago in 2016.

Dhawan is the only player from Himachal Pradesh to play in the Indian cricket team. Dhawan announced his retirement on social media after playing his last league match against Andhra Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Sunday. Rishi Dhawan wrote in his emotional post, ‘With a heavy heart I announce my retirement from Indian cricket (limited overs). However I have no regrets. It’s a game that has defined my life for the last 20 years. This game has given me a lot of happiness and countless memories. Who will always be very close to my heart. I am grateful to the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association, Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders for this opportunity. From humble beginnings to representing the country on the big stage, it has been a privilege for me. To all my fans, you are the soul of this game for me. Your enthusiasm and slogans will remain close to my heart. I will cherish this love and appreciation.
Rishi Dhawan’s cricket career
In the year 2016, Dhawan made his debut in the ODI match against Australia. In the same year he made his T20 debut against Zimbabwe. He played 3 ODIs and one T20 match for India. In ODI, he scored 12 runs in two innings of three matches and also took one wicket. He took one run and one wicket in the T20 match. Apart from this, Dhawan has played in IPL for Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2013 and Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) from 2014 to 2024. During this period, he scored 210 runs in 24 innings of 39 matches at an average of 19.09. In bowling, he took 25 wickets in 36 innings at an average of 35.64.

In first-class cricket, Dhawan took 4824 runs and 353 wickets in 98 matches. He scored 2,906 runs and took 186 wickets in 134 List-A matches.
