Mumbai: In an attempt to reduce its business surplus with the US and make it happy, India is now considering increasing apples imports from the US. Government sources gave this information.
India is considering reducing imports from countries with which it does not have significant commercial relations and is considering increasing the import of products from the United States to reduce the business surplus. India’s trade surplus with the US in FY 2024 will be $ 35.33 billion.
Sources also said that India is studying a change in its foreign trade policy in view of US emphasis on balanced trade.
India also fulfills the country’s apple demand through additional imports of domestic production. India mainly imports apples from Türkiye and New Zealand.
During the April-December period of the current financial year, India imported apples worth $ 300.7 million, out of which apples worth $ 65.2 million were imported from Türkiye.
