Mumbai: India will make a submission to incoming President Donald Trump regarding outgoing US President Joe Biden’s proposal to impose further restrictions on the export of artificial intelligence (AI) chips and technology.

The AI expansion program is not expected to have any impact in the short term until 2027, despite concerns about some of the imposed restrictions, including on graphics processing units (GPUS).

Government sources said India may be able to meet its two-year chip requirement under the limit proposed by the Biden administration, although the Trump administration will have to assess this.

The ban proposed by Biden on exports of chips and other technology may not have an impact in the short term, but it could have an adverse impact in the long run, considering the fact that the Indian government is considering raising the issue with Trump. Still working. The administration has started consultations on the issue and the possibility of developing its own GPU is being explored.

Under America’s AI proliferation policy and export controls, the world has been divided into three categories. Some countries including UK, France are in the category of getting unlimited chips. So some chips like China, Russia are in non-obtainable category while 140 countries including India have been placed in limited supply category.

Sources said not only will innovation be limited in India due to the limited supply of modern AI chips, but licensing requirements will also increase costs and slow down operations.
