India Pakistan: Eating on the streets due to Indus river dispute in Pakistan, supply chain stalled with thousands of trucks-tankers

News India Live, Digital Desk: The situation has become serious after the announcement of new canal construction on the Indus River in Pakistan. Thousands of trucks and oil tankers are stranded on the highway in Sindh province, causing tremendous outcry in the entire region. More than 30 thousand vehicles are standing on Sindh roads. The transport business has come to a complete standstill, causing thousands of empty containers to accumulate at the ports as well.

Due to this deadlock, Pakistan’s supply chain is on the verge of breaking. Despite the intervention and appeals of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the protesters are not ready to back down. Roads in areas like Sukkur, Khairpur, Kashmir and Kandhakot are completely jammed in Sindh. The Sindh government of the Pakistan People’s Party has stopped the work of canal construction at present, but the agitators are adamant on the demand to withdraw the entire plan.

Traders and transporters are facing the most troublesome due to this situation. All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has also warned of protests at the Chief Minister’s residence. About one lakh truck drivers and helpers are suffering from hunger and thirst for 10 days. Due to the heat in the paths, a huge crisis of water and food has arisen. About one crore worth of goods are still trapped on the way.

Incidents of protesters on fire by protesters have also come to light, which has increased tension. Exporters and industrialists have warned that if the solution is not found soon, the fuel crisis may deepen, which will increase inflation and economic crisis in Pakistan.
