Mercedes-Benz is set to launch the EQS 450 SUV and the G 580 with EQ technology on January 9 in India. The EQS 450 will be the second variant in the EQS SUV lineup, following the EQS 580 4Matic, and will be available as a 5-seater. India will be the first market outside the US to assemble the EQS SUV.
Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 will feature the same 122kWh battery pack as the EQS 580 4Matic, delivering 544hp and 858Nm of torque. This battery, with the largest claimed cell capacity for any passenger EV in India, can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 31 minutes using a 200kW DC charger. For comparison, the EQA and EQE SUVs use 70.5kWh and 90.5kWh batteries, respectively.
Mercedes-Benz’s entry-level EQS 450 SUV will feature a familiar design with a blanked-off grille extending into the lower front bumper and LED headlamps connected by a light bar. Its aerodynamic shape is similar to the EQS 580, but the 21-inch alloy wheels have been updated. Inside, the SUV offers crafted seat covers and exclusive features like Energising Air Control Plus.
The EQS 450 is expected to include the 56-inch Hyperscreen setup, with a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a front passenger screen. Comfort features are likely to include twin 11.6-inch rear entertainment screens, a 5-speaker Burmester audio system, 360-degree camera, soft-close doors, puddle lamps, and illuminated running boards. For safety, the EQS 450 is anticipated to come with Level 2 ADAS, 9 airbags, and more.
In addition, Mercedes-Benz India is set to launch the G 580 EV, the electric variant of the iconic G-Class, on January 9, 2025. Equipped with EQ technology, the SUV boasts a quad-motor all-wheel-drive system and offers a range of up to 473 km on a single charge. The design preserves the classic G-Class look with subtle updates, including a closed-off four-slat grille.
