New Delhi [India], February 07: Indian-born, UK-based AI scientist and music producer Dr Somdip Dey, known in the music world as InteliDey, has redefined electronic dance music (EDM) by integrating artificial intelligence in music analysis and production. His latest single, ‘I Don’t Think (Infinity Wave)’, introduces Infinity Wave, a pioneering sub-genre that blends Future Rave, Melodic Techno, and Progressive House. However, while Dr Dey initially experimented with AI-assisted music production, he later transitioned to traditional digital audio workstations (DAW), recognising that AI still has limitations in creative expression.

Dr Dey, a lecturer in Data Science at York St John University and an AI researcher, has been deeply involved in exploring how artificial intelligence can augment creative processes. His research led him to develop an AI-powered music analysis system, studying electronic music trends across streaming data, festival line-ups, and media coverage. The analysis revealed that Future Rave and Melodic Techno were the fastest-growing styles, inspiring him to create Infinity Wave—a genre that blends high-energy beats with hypnotic melodic structures.

Before transitioning to full manual production, InteliDey experimented with AI-generated music to explore its creative potential. In an interview with Fame Magazine, he shared how he initially used AI models to generate musical ideas and analyse structure. However, he found AI lacking in true artistic intent and emotional nuance, leading him to switch to traditional DAW techniques using FL Studio. He explained that while AI can generate music by identifying patterns, suggesting harmonies, and structuring loops, it does not capture the human experience behind a track. Despite his background in AI research, he chooses to compose and produce music manually.

This shift highlights an important industry debate over whether AI can replace human creativity in music. While AI can assist with analysis, trend prediction, and workflow automation, it still falls short when it comes to emotional storytelling and complex artistic decisions. Dr Dey’s experience underscores the idea that while AI is a powerful tool, it remains an assistant rather than a creator in the artistic process.

Beyond its production techniques, ‘I Don’t Think (Infinity Wave)’ also thematically reflects on human-AI dependency. The track’s lyrics—“I don’t think you’re gonna set me free, just the way I want it… I don’t think you’re gonna care for me, just the way I need it”—express the paradox of technology providing convenience but fostering reliance. The song is not just an electronic banger but also a commentary on the evolving human-AI relationship. Dr Dey believes that as AI gains more autonomy, people must be mindful of how it shapes human interactions, emotions, and even creativity.

Infinity Wave fuses the rolling basslines and immersive atmospheres of Melodic Techno with the high-energy drops of Future Rave, creating an evolving sonic journey. The track incorporates deep, pulsating basslines inspired by Melodic Techno, wide synth layers that create an expansive sound, hard-hitting kicks with crisp hi-hats, and a dramatic key change at the 3:19 mark, reminiscent of Deadmau5’s style, adding emotional depth. While AI helped InteliDey identify the direction of electronic music trends, the actual production of Infinity Wave was entirely human-driven, ensuring that creativity remains at the heart of the music-making process.

Before making waves in the music industry, Dr Somdip Dey had already cemented his name in the tech world. He holds over 100 intellectual properties, co-developing the QR code-based authentication system, which was later mandated by the University Grants Commission to prevent fake degrees. In 2014, he pioneered the world’s first crowd food-sharing platform to combat food waste, followed by the AI-powered Nosh app that helps consumers to reduce food waste at home using AI-based analytics. His contributions have earned him recognition as an MIT Innovator Under 35 in AI & Robotics, a Life Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and an Outstanding Achiever at the India UK Achievers Honours.

Now, with Infinity Wave, Dr Dey fuses AI expertise with artistic intuition, demonstrating that while AI can shape the future of music, true creativity remains uniquely human. As ‘I Don’t Think (Infinity Wave)’ gains momentum, it has the potential to influence the future of EDM, bridging AI-driven analysis with human musical craftsmanship.

The track ‘I Don’t Think (Infinity Wave)’ is now available for streaming on all major platforms.
