India now exports tea to more than 25 countries, including major markets such as the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Russia, America and Britain.

India’s Assam, Darjeeling and Nilgiri tea are considered one of the best tea in the world. Most Indian tea is exported as ‘black tea’, which is about 96 percent of the total exports. Apart from this, green tea, herbal tea, masala tea and lemon tea are also exported.

India’s small tea producers also play an important role in the tea industry. These small 2.30 lakh tea producers contribute about 52 percent to the total production. The Indian tea industry directly employs about 1.16 lakh people.
