The result of Melbourne Test has come in favor of Australia. By defeating India, they have also taken a 2-1 lead in the 5 test match series. After this defeat, the path to the WTC final has also become difficult for India.

The result of Melbourne Test did not go in favor of Team India. Australia won by 184 runs. With this big win, they have also taken the lead in the series. Australia gave India a target of 340 runs to win the Melbourne Test, chasing which Team India was out for just 155 runs in the second innings. This is the 49th time in Test cricket that Team India has faced defeat while chasing a score of more than 300.

Team India lost the opportunity to create history

Australia, which took a lead of 333 runs at the loss of 9 wickets on the fourth day, added 6 more runs to its score on the fifth day and gave India a target of 340 runs. Crossing this target would be a history-making achievement for Team India at the MCG as the highest successful run chase ever at this ground was 332 runs. But, this could not happen.

The failure of all other batsmen except Jaiswal is a big question mark.

Team India’s second innings in the Melbourne Test ended at just 155 runs. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored the highest 84 runs for the Indian team. He scored these runs facing 208 balls. Apart from Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant was the second top scorer of the team, who played an inning of 30 runs while chasing the target of 340 runs.

Apart from Yashasvi and Pant, no batsman could cross the double figures, this was the main reason why Team India could neither win nor draw the Melbourne Test. Rohit Sharma scored 9 runs and Virat Kohli scored 5 runs. Seeing KL Rahul failing for the second consecutive innings, it seems that the decision of the Indian team management to play him at number 3 was wrong.

Australia got a lead of 105 runs in the first innings

Playing first in the Melbourne Test, Australia scored 474 runs in the first innings. In reply, India scored 369 runs in the first innings. Playing with a lead of 105 runs in the first innings, Australia scored 234 runs in the second innings. Jasprit Bumrah took the maximum of 9 wickets for India in the Melbourne Test. Whereas for Australia, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon took 6-6 wickets.
