India defeated Australia by 295 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series during the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Optus Stadium in Perth today. With the help of centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli, the visiting team set a target of 534 runs for Australia on the third day, but in reply, the Kangaroo team collapsed for 238 runs in the second innings.
Great batting of Team India
Team India performed brilliantly in the second innings. First Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul broke Australia’s morale by making an opening partnership of 201 runs and then Virat Kohli sealed India’s victory by scoring a century. Jaiswal played an unbeaten inning of 161 runs and Virat played an unbeaten inning of 100 runs. While KL Rahul scored 77 runs. In this way, India scored 487 runs for 6 wickets in the second innings and gave Australia a huge target of 534 runs.
Head played an inning of 89 runs
Australia started the third day with a score of 12-3 and soon increased their score to 17-4 with the new ball after lethal bowling by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Siraj gave the fourth blow to the Kangaroo team by dismissing Usman Khawaja. After this, Siraj ended Steve Smith’s innings by getting him caught out by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. After this, Travis Head counter-attacked with 89 runs and Mitchell Marsh scored 47 runs. But later both of them were made their victims by Bumrah and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Off-spinner Washington Sundar got Mitchell Starc caught at short leg and bowled Nathan Lyon. After this, Alex Carey was dismissed by Nitish Rana on a brilliant slow ball.
Team India dominates in Australia
India’s win in Perth means they have won five and lost just two of their last nine Test matches in Australia since the 2018-19 tour. West Indies are the only other team to win a Test in Australia during this period. Thus, India recorded its second biggest Test win against a Kangaroo team in Australia, and also its biggest win against any team (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia). India’s biggest win against Australia was in Sydney in 1978 by an innings and two runs.
Bumrah-Siraj took 6 wickets
In the second innings against Australia, fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj together took six wickets. Apart from him, spinner Washington Sundar took two wickets while debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana took one wicket each.
Australia lost for the first time at Optus Stadium
The Australian team suffered its first Test defeat at the new Perth stadium as Jasprit Bumrah led Team India to victory. Before Monday, Australia had won all four of their Test matches in Perth against India, New Zealand, West Indies and Pakistan. Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah was chosen player of the match for his strong bowling. He took a total of eight wickets in the match.
