Ekadashi has special significance in Sanatan Dharma. According to the almanac, there are two sides every month – the 11th date in both the Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha – and is called Ekadashi. There are a total of 24 Ekadashi in the year, each date is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Ekadashi of Chaitra Shukla Paksha is called ‘Kamada Ekadashi’, which was celebrated this time on 8 April.

This day is not only fasting, but is also considered special for spiritual practice and worship of Lord Vishnu. In this context, an incomplete temple of Chhattisgarh attracts attention, which has been incomplete for a thousand years, but his story still attracts people.

Relation of Kamada Ekadashi and Lord Vishnu

Kamada means Kamada or desire. This Ekadashi is associated with ‘Kama’, one of the four efforts of life. It is believed that Goddess Kamada is the complex of desires. In the Shiva Purana, she is described as a female form of Shiva, who incarnated as Sati and Parvati.

According to the Padma Purana, once a demon named Moore attacked Lord Vishnu, who was absorbed in Yoganidra. At the same time, a divine girl appeared from the body of God, who killed the Asura. This girl appeared on Ekadashi Tithi, so Lord Vishnu blessed her that whoever would be his devotee, she will also be a devotee of this girl. Since then the importance of Ekadashi fast increased.

A temple that incomplete even after Ekadashi

An ancient temple of Lord Vishnu located in Janjgir-Champa of Chhattisgarh is still incomplete. This 11th -century temple was built by Kalchuri King Jajavaryadeva. He himself also fasted for 24 Ekadashis of the year. When India was being attacked by invaders, this temple was constructed to keep the Sanatan tradition alive.

The architecture of this temple is amazing. This temple, built in the Nagara style, is eternal and is based on the Saptartha Yojana. Religious stories like Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Sitaharan and Krishna Leela have been engraved in its sanctum sanctorum, Mahamandapa, mural paintings and sculpture.

Why did this grand temple remain incomplete?

Many legends are prevalent about the incompleteness of the temple. It is said that two Vishnu temples were being constructed simultaneously in Janjgir and nearby Shivrinarayan. It is believed that Lord Vishnu gave a darshan to the king and said that the temple which will be built first, he will be seated in it. The Shivrinarayan temple was prepared first, where the statue of Vishnu was installed, but the temple of Janjgir remained incomplete.

According to another legend, this temple was being constructed by Bhima of Mahabharata period. It is said that during construction, his chisel used to fall into a pond repeatedly, which is called ‘Bhima Talab’. Finally, when the chisel did not fall into the pond, he left the unfinished work and went to Bhima. From the same day, this temple is incomplete without a peak and without a statue.

This faith is still alive today

This temple is not only a architectural miracle, but it is also a symbol of the life of Sanatan Dharma, which is alive in its origin even after a thousand years.
