Washington: Joe Biden is going to step down from the post of President next month, but in the last days of his tenure, he is going to provide huge military aid to Ukraine worth 725 million dollars i.e. about Rs 6139 crore to Kiev.

This military support also includes several anti-drone systems, high-mobility artillery rocket systems, (HIMRS) and anti-personnel land mines. The debate on Biden’s decision has intensified. There is also a lot of speculation regarding the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS). Because it has the ability to hit long distances. Actually, Ukraine had long wanted to use it 186 miles inside Russia. However, it is not yet clear whether it will be included in the arms shipment to Ukraine.

More seriously, they want to supply Ukraine with anti-personnel mines (land mines), which if stepped on can explode instantly, killing a soldier. There are anti-tank mines. If a tank or vehicle passes over it, its wings fly away.

According to human rights organizations, many of these mines are still buried in the ground after the war and if someone accidentally steps on them, innocent civilians die. Therefore, this step of Biden remains condemnable.

On the other hand, the US government has called it an urgent need for Ukraine and has also said that civilians will be trained to avoid unnecessary harm from those mines. Not only that but the mines are configured to automatically deactivate after a certain amount of time.

There is a war going on between Russia and Ukraine for the last 3 years. The border line is burning for 620 miles. Therefore, the use of ‘individual mines’ is becoming inevitable to prevent Russian troops from entering Ukraine’s geographical territory, the US says.
