Washington: The United States has imposed several sanctions on Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) chief Abdel Fattah Al Burhan and his associates. In a special statement released today, the US Treasury Department said that the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is targeting Burhan and some of his associates for destabilizing Sudan and diverting that country from a democratic path. Earlier January. Mohammed Hamdan Daglo Moussa has also been banned till May 7, 2025.

Additionally, OFAC has imposed economic sanctions on a North Sudanese company and its owner for illegal weapons production and procurement. US Treasury Department Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo said the US is committed to ending the years-long conflict between the north and south in Sudan.

The Great Nile River flows through Sudan. It joins the Blue Nile south of Khartoum (the capital). The area above Blunel is majority Muslim, while the southern part is majority Christian. There has been a conflict going on between the two parts for years.

In the north, Burhan’s military air force bombed civilians, schools and hospitals, and even markets. The result was that Burhan and his army are being accused of war crimes not only from America but from all over the world.
