Prime Minsiter, Narendra Modi has inauragted the Z-Morh tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday, January 13, 2025.
The tunnel is 6.5 kilometers long, which will help to provide all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Sonamarg.
The tunnel is situated at an altitude of 8,650 feet, and it is designed to provide security for civilians as well as access to military needs.
PM Modi interacted with construction workers who played a significant role in completing the project and also paid tribute to slain tunnel workers.
This tunnel bypasses paths susceptible to landslides and avalanches, offering safer and more dependable access to the strategically important Ladakh region.
Z-Morh tunnel is constructed at a cost of Rs 2,700 crore. It is nestled amidst the majestic snow-covered Himalayan peaks.
Along with PM Modi, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah were also present at the inauguration ceremony.
