Purnia, 16 November (HS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated cultural heritage with artists at the Tribal Pride Day 2024 function held in Jamui, Bihar. The center of special attraction in the program was the presentation of Kala Bhawan Drama Department of Purnia, which was coordinated by famous theater artist Vishwajit Kumar Singh.
In an interesting incident of the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi encouraged the artists by himself playing the Ghunghru khanjari made of wood by Pawan Ikka, a tribal artist of Purnia. This happened because to welcome PM Modi, a team of artists from Purnia along with other teams were standing to welcome Modi and playing the tribal instrument Ghunghru studded jhanjri. Meanwhile, PM Modi stopped and took the dagger from the hands of Pawan Ikka, a tribal artist of Purnia. And started playing himself. The artists of Purnia are very happy with this fascinating incident and they are proud that the Khanjari was played by the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the hands of our tribal artists.
This program was org.zed in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India and the Department of Art Culture Youth, Government of Bihar. In the program, the team of Purnia Kala Bhavan Drama Department included theater director Kundan Kumar, theater artiste Shivaji Rao and Raj Roshan and other artists.
The artistes, led by Vishwajeet Kumar Singh, a recipient of Bihar Art Award, Bhikhari Thakur Award and National Folk Vid Award, made the event memorable with their performance. This informal meeting of tribal artists with the Prime Minister on this occasion shows the government’s commitment towards tribal art and culture.
