Many governments and administration in the US and Europe are worried about the increasing addiction of laughter gas or nitrous oxide. Many young people consume this gas in parties as drugs. Some youth learn to use nitrous oxide at the age of 15 to 17 years. Some people buy gas in balloons, while others buy it in coaches. Laughter gas is legally and easily available in some supermarkets in Europe. Laughter gas is also available in some grocery stores. Even after contacting the dealer, you will get nitrous oxide.
Often young people make a rule to bring nitrous oxide before organizing a party to create an atmosphere of laughter. The youth are assured that if it is easily available then there will be no harm. A few years ago a British magazine published a report. In the UK, 92 percent of the teenagers who heard about the lofing gas had no information about the damage caused by this gas. Now some European countries governments are considering banning the sale of nitrous oxide.
A law was passed in the UK in 2023 to ban nitrous oxide. The Netherlands have compared nitrous oxide to drugs. In May 2024, the US state of Louisiana banned the sale of nitrous oxide at grocery stores. Germany is considering banning laughter gas. Nitrous oxide is a gas that temporarily creates a feeling of gaiety, which is called dizziness in the head. Sometimes the effect of this gas causes lightness and dizziness in the head, even the person becomes confused.
This feature of nitrous oxide attracts youth to use it for entertainment. The intoxication of this gas lasts only from 30 seconds to 1 minute, so time is not wasted. It can be easily shed not only once but again and again. In addition to its therapeutic use, nitrous oxide is also used to prepare whipped creams. This is why it is available in shops across Europe, especially on kiosks. In America, it is available only in shops selling VEPS. Health experts believe that the number of shops selling nitrous oxide has increased since 2017.
Awareness campaign was launched by students at Queen Mary University in London against the addiction of nitrous oxide. The British government published a report on nitrous oxide, stating that the use of lofing gas may cause tingling, numbness, muscle laxity or stiffness, and difficulty in urination or defecation. The person starts laughing due to stress in the facial muscles.
