Jaipur: In a first a helicopter was used for organ transplant in Rajasthan and eight organs of a brain-dead young man saved three lives. Within three hours, the helicopter transported the heart, kidney, and liver from Jhalawar to Jaipur and Jodhpur. To ensure that the body parts remain safe, the helicopter was landed within a radius of one kilometer of Jaipur’s SMS Hospital and Jodhpur AIIMS.

As per reports on December 10, Vishnu (33), a youth from Jhalawar, was admitted to SRG Hospital of Jhalawar. Vishnu had a fight and suffered a head injury. Even after the operation, he became brain-dead on December 13. Looking at his condition, the family members gave permission for organ transplant.

Vishnu’s kidney, heart, liver, and lungs were removed with operations on 13 and 14 December at Jhalawar Medical College. On Sunday (15) at 10.30 am, the organs were taken to Jaipur from Jhalawar by helicopter.

The two organs were airlifted to Jodhpur AIIMS at 1.30 pm by the same helicopter. Organ transplants were done to two patients in Jaipur and one patient in Jodhpur.

The young man’s organ donation includes liver, heart, and set of kidneys, lungs, and corneas. Dr Vishal Nainwal, a urologist associated with the organ donation process, said that the cornea of ​​the eyes was sent to Shine India Kota and one kidney and liver were sent to Jodhpur while the lungs, one kidney and heart were sent to Jaipur.

Former CM of Rajasthan and MLA from Jhalawar Vasundhara Raje applauded the family members for their consent and the administration and doctors for their effort.

‘ This is historic and will make organ transplants more fast in the future. I appreciate the family members for their consent and thank the administration and doctors for their effort,’ said Raje in a statement.
