The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a further dip in temperatures in some regions of India. According to the weather department, a western disturbance is expected to bring rain and snowfall in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, and Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, coldwave conditions will likely prevail in numerous regions on Friday, including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh.
Yellow alert in Himachal Pradesh
According to the Shimla Meteorological Station, dense fog is expected in some areas of Himachal Pradesh, including the districts of Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, and Mandi. Snowfall is also anticipated in the mid to high hills, particularly in the Lahaul and Spiti regions of the state. The India Meteorological Department has announced that a new Western disturbance is forecasted to affect Northwest India starting January 11. Additionally, rain and snowfall are expected over the weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
Low visibility disrupts flights and train services in Delhi
Delhi, the national capital, is currently experiencing cold and foggy weather. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures are expected to drop further in the coming days. On Friday, the city continued to be affected by dense fog and adverse weather conditions.
Weather conditions in other parts of India
Cold wave conditions continued to sweep across North India, including Jammu and Kashmir, as the IMD predicted minimum and maximum temperatures of -5 degrees Celsius and 7 degrees Celsius, respectively. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand is also experiencing cold wave conditions, with several areas, particularly Haridwar and Haldwani, covered in dense fog.
IANS shared a video on X and stated, “The cold wave in Varanasi persists, with dense fog enveloping the banks of the Ganga and Varuna rivers. Despite the thick fog, devotees and tourists gathered at the ghats while the sun remained concealed behind the mist.”
IMD predicted that fog conditions are also likely to prevail in Chandigarh, Haryana Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, and the northeastern states for the next two days.
