Mumbai: After a heatwave in parts of the state last week, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ as unseasonal rains with thunderstorms are expected at isolated locations.

The alert is issued for North Konkan, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidharbha regions. There is no rainfall alert issued for Mumbai and it’s metropolitan regions, however, weather will continue to remain dry and windy for the next few days.

Mumbai has been witnessing partly cloudy skies and windy weather from the last couple of days. On Friday, the maximum temperature recorded in Mumbai’s Santacruz observatory was 34 degrees Celsius and minimum was 22.7 degrees Celsius. While Colaba observatory recorded a maximum and minimum temperature of 32.4 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius respectively.

As per IMD’s weather report for the next 48 hours for Mumbai City and Suburbs, the maximum and minimum temperatures will be 37 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius.

IMD Mumbai Director Sunil Kamble said, “There are chances of rains with thunderstorms in parts of the state and Yellow alert is given. There is no alert issued for Mumbai for unseasonal rains. Due to strong westerly winds, the weather in Mumbai is dry and windy, which will continue for the next few days.”

As per IMD weather report as of Friday, March 21, the regions where rainfall is expected on Saturday are South Central Maharashtra, Marathwada and East and West Vidharbha. While, for Sunday, except Marathwada the other regions continue to have warnings for unseasonal rains at isolated locations.

The rainfall the parts of the state witnesses in March and April is annual phenomena due to change in weather conditions as the regions enter the peak of summer season.

For the unversed, though the temperatures in the state have dropped slightly this week due to the change in weather patterns, the IMD’s outlook for Summer 2025 has predicted above normal temperatures for the season.
