The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a weather alert for Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry as light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected over the upcoming three days beginning December 24, 2024. This weather phenomenon is linked to a distinct low-pressure zone situated over the west-central Bay of Bengal, expected to shift towards the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and northern Tamil Nadu.
Low-Pressure In Bay Of Bengal
The IMD has observed that the low-pressure system is forecasted to shift west-southwest, arriving at the southwest Bay of Bengal close to the northern Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh coasts by December 24. Nonetheless, it is still unclear if this system will strengthen more as it nears the coast.
Along with the rainfall, mist or haze is expected to dominate in certain areas during the early morning hours in the interior of Tamil Nadu. The IMD has also noted that arid weather conditions were seen in north coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the Karaikal region before this predicted shift.
On December 24, significant rainfall is expected in regions like Chengalpattu, Viluppuram, Cuddalore, and Puducherry, along with thunderstorms in multiple locations, according to a report from The Hindustan Times.
