Indore Sets New Record: IMC Crosses 1000 Crores In Tax Collection, Up 27.5% From Last Year | FPJ

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Setting a new record, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has surpassed Rs 1,000 crore in tax collection in the financial year 2024-25, which is 27.5 per cent more than what the cleanest city had collected in the last fiscal.

The major leap from last year’s collection of Rs 785 crore mirrors the city’s economic resilience and efficient tax management.

The record-breaking collection has become possible due to responsible citizens who paid their taxes on time and vigorous campaigns along with the dedicated efforts of municipal officials.

The taxes collected include property tax, water cess, garbage utility charges and various other municipal levies.

Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava expressed gratitude to the residents of Indore and credited the achievement to the awareness and participation of the public, diligence of IMC administration and transparent systems in place.

The final push to cross the Rs 1,000 crore mark came on the last day of the financial year. Cash counters at IMC offices remained open until midnight, with the total reaching Rs 980 crore by 7 pm. By 12 am, the target was successfully crossed. The surge in collections is attributed to both the IMC’s strictness in enforcement and the growing tax awareness among the residents.

Boost city development: Verma

Municipal commissioner Shivam Verma said that the record tax collection will be directed toward the city’s infrastructure development with an emphasis on improving civic amenities and public services.

He assured that these efforts would continue in the coming years to ensure sustained growth and progress for Indore.

“The record tax collection will serve as a strong foundation for future growth enhancing the city’s infrastructure and improving the quality of life for its residents,” he added.

Key strategies behind the success

Regular Review and Monitoring: The Mayor, the municipal commissioner and revenue in-charge held frequent review meetings to ensure continuous momentum in the tax collection drive.

Incentive Schemes for Taxpayers: To motivate timely payments, the corporation introduced attractive rewards, discounts, and other benefits for those paying taxes in advance.

Public Awareness Campaign: Extensive campaigns were conducted across the city to raise awareness and encourage taxpayers to fulfill their dues on time.

Promotion of Digital Payments: The IMC facilitated cashless and digital payment options, ensuring a smoother and more convenient tax-paying process for the residents.

Pushyamitra Bhargava the Mayor of Indore Municipal Corporation said “This achievement is a testament to the aware public of Indore, the vigilance of our administration and our transparent approach. For the first time, we have crossed Rs 1,000 crore mark in tax collection. I thank all the citizens who contributed by paying their taxes on time. This will greatly accelerate the development work of our city.”
