Indore (Madhya Pradesh): IIT Indore is all set to cohost the 57th inter IIT sports meet for the first time since its inception along with IIT Kanpur.

This grand event, a cornerstone of the IIT community’s sports culture, will take place from December 10 to 17 on IIT Indore campus, with the inauguration ceremony scheduled on December 9.

The inter IIT sports meet is an annual extravaganza that brings together talented athletes from all 23 IITs across the country. The event epitomises the spirit of sportsmanship, teamwork and camaraderie that defines the IIT ethos.

This year, over 2500 participants are expected to compete in 12 disciplines, including athletics, football, badminton, squash, basketball, volleyball, hockey and more. IIT Indore is set to host 1370 participants who will compete in games including Athletics, Football, Badminton, Squash, Weightlifting and Chess.

This comes on the heels of the institute successfully hosting the 38th Inter IIT Aquatics Meet in October 2024, showcasing its capability to organize events of this magnitude. As a host for the first time, IIT Indore is poised to create a memorable experience.

The institute has made significant investments to upgrade its sports infrastructure, including state-of-the-art facilities for indoor and outdoor games, ensuring a world-class environment for athletes to perform at their best. IIT Indore director Prof Suhas Joshi said, “It is an honour for IIT Indore to host the 57th Inter IIT Sports Meet. This meet promises a dynamic mix of competition and collaboration, showcasing the talent and determination of young athletes. This event provides a unique platform to foster athletic excellence and strengthen bonds among IITs. We had successfully hosted the 38th Inter IIT Aquatics Meet recently and received very positive feedback from all the participants and Indian Swimming Federation.  We are committed to ensuring that this meet will be an unforgettable celebration of sports and unity.”

The event will feature a grand opening ceremony with cultural performances and the traditional torch relay. The closing ceremony will honour outstanding athletes and institutions with accolades. Cdr Sunil Kumar (Retd), PRO, said “IIT Indore has incorporated eco-friendly practices in planning the meet, aligning with its commitment to sustainability.

As a leader in innovation, IIT Indore has introduced a dedicated app for participants to register that will have a face recognition system and QR Codes for various applications. The spectators can see live telecast of the matches with real-time updates on match schedules and scores through live-streaming options.”
