QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025: The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 showcase IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay’s remarkable placement among the world’s prestigious institutions. In Engineering and Technology, IIT Delhi secured at 26th position, while IIT Bombay stood at 28th position. Their remarkable performances strengthen India’s expanding presence in higher education and research.
The subjects included in Engineering and Technology are Engineering- Chemical, Engineering- Civil and Structural, Computer Science and Information Systems, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Engineering- Electrical and Electronics, Engineering- Petroleum, Engineering- Mechanical and Engineering- Mineral and Mining.
IIT Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi
IIT Delhi occupies the 26th position worldwide in Engineering and Technology. After achieving this milestone, Prof. Vivek Buwa, Head of the Ranking Cell and Dean of Planning has shared his views on the same.
In the official press release, he said, “The QS World University Subject Ranking 2025 for Engineering & Technology is based on five parameters: (1) Academic reputation (40%), (2) Employer reputation (30%), (3) Citations (10%), (4) H-index (10%) and (5) International Research Network (10%). This year, IIT Delhi has improved its score in each of these five parameters. Notably, there is a significant increase in the score in the employer reputation and international research network parameters.”
“For the last several years, IIT Delhi has been working on strengthening its international collaborations. For example, in the last seven years (2018-2024), which also correspond to the period since IIT Delhi was selected as the “Institute of Eminence (IoE)”, IIT Delhi has undertaken 410 international collaborative research projects with leading universities/institutes across the globe that have helped the institute to strengthen its international research network,” he added.
The institute took a significant jump by improving through the QS World University Rankings by 47 ranks from 197th in 2024 to 150th in 2025. IIT Delhi has emerged as a leader in AI, sustainable technology, and robotics research and innovation, attracting the best talent from around the globe.
IIT Bombay: Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay
In QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, IIT Bombay has secured the 28th position in Engineering and Technology.
IIT Bombay was also among the Indian institutions that improved their global QS ranking the most, moving up 31 places from 149th in 2024 to 118th in the 2025 overall QS rankings. IIT Bombay is renowned for its collaboration with industry and a thriving research ecosystem that pushes frontiers in technology and engineering education. The Institute continues to lead in nascent areas such as quantum computing, energy-efficient systems, and data science.
