Rohit Sharma-Virat Kohli bad form: Captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are going through poor form on the Australia tour and are the target of critics. Kohli scored a century in Perth but his performance lacked consistency. After the defeat in Melbourne, speculations have gained momentum regarding the future of Rohit and Virat in Test cricket. Former Indian cricketer Surinder Khanna believes that ‘the time has come for Rohit and Virat to decide on their future. If these two do not take any decision then the selectors should retire both of them.
What are Rohit-Virat doing?
68 year old Surinder said, ‘What are Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli doing? Shift attention from Rishabh Pant. He has been playing like this since day one. He will keep making such mistakes. Tell me about Kohli and Rohit? What has he been doing for the last 40-45 innings? If the selectors do not drop them then both of them should sit out themselves. You and I can’t throw them out. The way he is in form, even if you bowl, he will be out. I am saying this from experience. Why shouldn’t he play his scoring shots? David Gower and Gundappa Vishwanath scored a lot of runs by playing cut shots.
we look and cry
The former cricketer further said, ‘Our batsmen Kohli and Rohit are not in form. Meanwhile the selectors have to take a decision. If they are not announcing then the selectors should announce something. Give a chance to the youth in the next Test, we will win, like we won the first Test under the leadership of Bumrah. We beat Australia. We have been struggling since Rohit came back. My words may sound harsh but if you want to win you have to take tough decisions. We see, we cry, we have the right to say it. Australia is leading 2-1 in the five-match series.
Such performance of both in the series
Bumrah captained the side in the first match of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy as Rohit was absent due to the birth of his second child. In the second match, Rohit led the team but Australia managed to win by 10 wickets. The third Test ended in a draw while India lost the fourth match in Melbourne by 184 runs. The fifth and last match of the series will be played in Sydney from January 3. Rohit has so far scored only 31 runs in five innings of the series at an average of 6.20. He has not been able to reach double figures four times. Kohli has scored 167 runs in seven innings at an average of 27.83. He also reached the pavilion four times on a single digit score. Both the batsmen also failed to make an impact in the home Test series against New Zealand.
