Offshore patrol vessel (OPV) ICGS of Indian Coast Guard visited Madagascar under his foreign deployment scheme. The ICGS Capable has reached the port of Madagascar, as part of the ongoing foreign deployment for all the friend countries in the Indian Ocean region. The journey is an important milestone in strengthening maritime cooperation between India and Madagascar.

 

During this time the competent team of ICGS will engage in professional conversation with Madagascar Coast Guard. There will be a detailed discussion on maritime pollution response (MPR), maritime discovery and rescue (M-SAR), and maritime law enforcement. The purpose of this visit is to strengthen the relationship between the Indian Coast Guard and its Malagasi counterparts.

Many cross-deck training will be involved

ICGS has reached Madagascar after a three -day visit by Saksham Seychelles. This will increase diplomatic connectivity and increase cooperation between Coast Guard in the Indian Ocean region. During this time there will be several cross-deck training, joint cultural programs and friendly sports competitions between the two teams. Where India’s ship -making capabilities will also be demonstrated. ICGS will provide special training in MPR to competent maritime agencies of Madagascar. This training will be on effective strategies for oil, chemical leakage and marine pollution. This is designed to help the marine agencies of Madagascar to help deal with environmental emergency conditions, so that safe maritime ecosystems in the area can be ensured.

Security and development for all in the ocean region

This initiative contributes to the “Puneet Sagar Abhiyan” of the Government of India. The deployment of ICGS Sakham in Madagascar aims to promote cordial relations with Indian Ocean countries. It also shows the commitment to promote friendly relations through marine cooperation. It corresponds to India’s broad maritime outlook, including security and development for all in the maritime field.
