The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is hosting Pakistan, is going to start from February 19. Eight teams participating in this big tournament are all preparing. Meanwhile, former India opener Shikhar Dhawan has been given a new role. The ICC has appointed Dhawan as the event ambassador of the Champions Trophy.
Embassaders of four veteran Champions Trophy became
The ICC has appointed a total of four ambassadors for this prestigious tournament –
- Shikhar Dhawan from India
- Sarfaraz Ahmed from Pakistan (2017 Champions Trophy winning captain)
- Shane Watson from Australia
- New Zealand to Tim Saudi
All these ambassadors will write columns during the tournament, analyze and be present in the stadium during the matches.
Dhawan’s special connection with Champions Trophy
Shikhar Dhawan took part in the Champions Trophy (2013 and 2017) twice in his international career and won the Golden Bat (the highest run award in the tournament) on both occasions. Dhawan is the only player in the world to achieve this feat.
- He has scored the highest 701 runs for India in the Champions Trophy.
- When India won the Champions Trophy in 2013, Dhawan became the ‘Player of the Tournament’.
India will play its matches in Dubai
India will play all their matches in Dubai under the hybrid model, while Pakistan will host the rest of the matches.
Dhawan said in a statement issued by the ICC,
“It has always been special for me to be a part of the Champions Trophy. I have many memories associated with this tournament, and now it is an honor for me to be a part of it as an event ambassador. ”
The Champions Trophy will take on the world’s best eight teams for the title in 2025, and India will launch their campaign against Bangladesh on 20 February.
