Several petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court against the amendments made by the Central Government in the Waqf Act. These petitions were heard for the second consecutive day. Various aspects of amendments have been questioned in these petitions. Meanwhile, Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) President Jagdambika Pal has said that if a single mistake is found in the law, he will resign on a special basis.

Jagdambika Pal has presented his side in an interview to a national news channel. They allege that political parties are appeasing Muslims only for vote politics. This role is wrong. He has also said that he is working completely impartially, not with any political inspiration.

Mislead political parties

Pal further said that JPC has held 38 meetings on this issue. All these allegations are baseless. He accused some political parties of misleading people for their own benefit.

Petitions filed in the Supreme Court have asked how a Hindu person can be appointed in the Waqf Board. The Supreme Court also expressed doubts in this regard and asked the government whether Muslim persons would also be given a place in Hindu institutions. On this, Pal said that permission to keep non-Muslim members in the Waqf Board has already been made clear in a prior decision of the Supreme Court. According to the Supreme Court, the Waqf Board is a legal body, not a religious institution. In today’s hearing, the court issued an interim order of seven days and said that during this time no new appointment will be made in the Waqf Board and no property will be denotified.
