‘I did not see better ODI players than Kohli’: Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has praised Virat Kohli after a brilliant century against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy 2025. Ponting said, “I have not seen more dangerous players in ODI cricket than Kohli.” Along with this, he hoped that this star batsman would be successful in breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most runs in ODIs.

Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 100 in the Champions Trophy match against Pakistan on Sunday, which is the 51st century of his ODI career. India won the match by 6 wickets on the basis of Kohli’s brilliant innings.

I did not see more dangerous players than Kohli.

Ponting said, “I have not seen more dangerous players than Virat Kohli in the 50 -over format.” Now that he has left me behind (in terms of scoring the most runs) and now only two batsmen are ahead of him, I am confident that he will give the best chance to remember as the most run player in this format. .

Kohli also completed 14,000 runs in ODI cricket during his century. He is the third batsman in the world to achieve this feat after Sachin Tendulkar and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara.

Kohli (14085 runs) is still 4341 runs behind Tendulkar (18426) and at the age of 36 he has a very limited time to reach this target, but Ponting does not think it is an impossible task for Kohli.

Ponting further said, “Virat is definitely physically fit as before and works extraordinaryly on this aspect of his game.” Wonder when you think about it. Virat has been doing well continuously for the last several years but despite this he is still 4000 runs behind Tendulkar. This not only shows how good batsmen Sachin was, but also shows how long he used to play. But you can never underestimate a player like Virat. If he is still hungry to score runs, then I would never say that he cannot break Tendulkar’s record.

Made Australia twice the ODI World Cup champion

Ricky Ponting, the highest run -scorer of Australia in both Tests and ODI formats, has scored more than 13,000 runs in both formats. Under his captaincy, Australia has become the one -day World Cup champion twice (2003 and 2007).
