Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has unveiled plans to establish around 600 public EV fast charging stations nationwide within the next seven years. As part of this initiative, the company aims to have 50 stations operational by December 2024. This move reflects Hyundai’s strong focus on promoting sustainable transportation and is expected to significantly contribute to India’s shift towards cleaner energy solutions.
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has supported over 50,000 EV charging sessions, delivering more than 7.30 lakh units of energy to 10,000 EV users, including Hyundai and non-Hyundai customers. Strengthening its commitment to green mobility, HMIL has partnered with the Tamil Nadu government to establish 100 EV charging stations across the state by 2027. As part of this plan, 10 stations are expected to be operational by the end of 2024, with three already functional at Spencer Plaza, BSR Mall in Chennai, and Hotel Seasons in Tiruvannamalai. The remaining seven will become operational soon, providing round-the-clock access through the myHyundai app for all EV users in the state.
Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Jae Wan Ryu, Function Head – Corporate Planning, HMIL said, “The EV market is expected to grow robustly by 2030. Studies conducted by HMIL have highlighted that customers are apprehensive about driving their EVs for long-distance commutes on highways due to a lack of charging infrastructure. Keeping this in mind, HMIL has taken the initiative of installing fast EV chargers on key highways, in addition to major cities. With access to HMC’s global EV and battery technology, HMIL is well-positioned to build a comprehensive EV ecosystem in India. We are actively investing in infrastructure to support the expected growth in demand for electric vehicles.”
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is equipping its EV charging stations with advanced configurations, offering options like DC 150 kW + DC 60 kW + DC 30 kW or DC 150 kW + DC 30 kW or DC 60 kW. Beyond infrastructure, the company has made significant strides in EV adoption, selling over 4,061 units of its electric vehicles, including the popular Hyundai IONIQ 5 and KONA models, by November 2024. These efforts highlight Hyundai’s dual focus on expanding EV infrastructure and driving the adoption of sustainable mobility solutions.
