Deoria: A bizzare incident has come to light form Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria. An elderly couple in Patlapur village of Salempur tehsil area of Deoria district tried to commit suicide by burying themselves into the ground (Bhu Samadhi) on Tuesday (15-04-2025)
Reportedly, the couple attempted Bhu Samadhi when they could not get possession of the Gram Sabha land. A video of this incident is going viral on social media. On getting information about the incident, the head of the village panicked and immediately informed the administrative officials about it.
Salempur SDM Disha Srivastava, rushed to the spot and tried to explain the couple. She said, “Gucci Devi, wife of Ramnaresh, wanted to take possession of the land. When she did not get possession of the land, she tried to commit suicide. She said that this couple has a one-storey house. Therefore, they cannot be given possession of government land in any way.” After hours of persuasion and with great difficulty, the couple was taken out.
The woman has been identified as Gucci Devi and her husband has been identified as Ramnaresh.
Ramnaresh and his wife Gucchi Devi dug a pit next to their house and sat in it and filing soil till their necks. The couple alleged that they were being evicted from the land they had been occupying for years.
What Gucci Devi Said?
Gucci Devi said this land is now being vacated. Whereas the land occupied by their neighbour is not being vacated. Seeing this “discrimination”, they attempted Bhu Samadhi. According to Gucci Devi, her husband Ramnaresh is visually impaired.
