1) Check the color
The color of the pot should be terracotta red. Before buying, rub the hand on the pot, if its color comes down, it is not made of the right soil. Avoid painted pot, as chemicals present in them can dissolve in water.

2) Note the fragrance
There is a natural fragrance of soil in good pot. To check it, add some water and smell it. If there is a soil -like smell, it is a good quality pot. If there is smell, chemicals may have been added to it.

3) Choose size
Before buying a matka, choose the right size as per your need. If the space is low, the jug can also be a good option. Taking a stand with pot can also be useful.

4) Check the thickness
The thick walls of the pot keep the water cold and fresh for a long time. A very thin pot can break quickly and does not cool much.

5) See the fitting of the lid
The lid of the pot should be fit well – not very loose and not very tight. With the right fitting, water will be saved from dust and mud and insects and will remain fresh for longer.

6) Cook Test
Before buying the matka, fill half the water in it and keep it on the ground for some time. If the water starts leaking, it is not of the right quality.
