A heartbreaking road accident occurred near Sarokhanpur underpass on Varanasi-Lucknow National Highway (NH-731). A total of 9 people died in two separate accidents in the accident, while 33 people were injured. In the first accident, Tata Sumo and an unknown vehicle collided, in which five people died on the spot and six were seriously injured. In the second accident, a bus collided with a high speed trailer, killing three people and injuring 27 passengers. The death toll due to the death of another devotee during treatment has increased to nine.

Devotees were in deep sleep at the time of the accident

After this horrific road accident, there was a scream at the scene. Most of the devotees in the bus were sleeping at the time of the accident. People woke up panicked by a sudden loud voice and shock, but by then many people were injured. The devotees sitting in front were the most affected, while the people sitting behind also suffered serious injuries due to the shock.

At the same time, people in Tata Sumo were also in half sleep. An unknown heavy vehicle running at high speed hit Sumo, causing the vehicle to be badly damaged and five people aboard it died on the spot. The magnitude of the accident can be gauged from the fact that another person lost his life despite immediately taking the injured to the hospital.

  • Babli (46), Subhash (50), Dinesh (39), Ranjit (40), Kavita (45), Harishchandra (61), Bhagwan Singh (58), Mayawati (55), Hemchandra (55), Gita (55) , Kishori Lal (60), Lakshmi (32), Suresh (55), Sushila (60), Saraswati (55), Ashish (30), Shakuntala (54), Sushila (65), Ramvati (60), Radha (70), Gitanjali (31), Tara (65), Kamlesh (50), Manasha (48), Harishchandra (61), Meena (65) etc. .

All the injured were first taken to CHC (Community Health Center), but were referred to the district hospital in view of their serious condition.

How did the accident happen?

First accident: Sumo and unknown vehicle collision

11 devotees of Jharkhand were going to Ayodhya after visiting Kashi Vishwanath after riding in Tata Sumo (JH 02 AX 1652). At around 1:30 pm, when his vehicle moved 200 meters ahead of the Sarokhanpur underpass, an unknown big vehicle hit him strongly from behind. The collision was so tremendous that five people in Sumo died on the spot, while six people were seriously injured.

Second accident: bus and trailer collision

Around 2:15 pm, a bus of devotees going from Delhi to Ayodhya entered the trailer going from Bihar to Bareilly. Three people, including bus driver Sonu Singh, were killed in the accident, while 27 people were injured.

Devotees came out in three buses

About 150 devotees from Delhi’s Madipur locality rode in three buses and went on a religious journey on the night of 15 February. He first reached Chitrakoot and visited, then took a Amrit bath during Mahakumbh in Prayagraj. After this, on the morning of 19 February, Kashi reached Vishwanath Temple and visited. From there, all the devotees left for Ayodhya at 10 pm, but unfortunately the bus running at the forefront crashed.

Quick action of administration

In -charge Inspector Gajanand Choubey, Tehsildar Rakesh Kumar and his team reached the spot as soon as the accident was reported. The police immediately started relief and rescue operations.

  • All the injured were referred to the district hospital after first aid.
  • The bodies of the dead were sent for postmortem.
  • Arrangements were made to deliver other passengers to safe places.
  • The administration assured the injured to provide all possible medical assistance.
